Squid Socks

Squid Socks make one thing their whole job: keeping your foot from moving inside your shoe.

The brand started as a fix for a small problem. Gabe and Jessica Miller could not keep socks on their kids, so they built a sock that gripped. It worked well enough to land them on Shark Tank, and well enough that adults started buying them for a different reason. The same grip that keeps a sock on a toddler keeps a foot locked in through a lateral push.

What S-GRIP actually does

Three zones of heat-applied silicone, not one. Inside the sock, so your foot does not slide against the fabric. Outside, so the sock does not slide against your shoe. Underfoot, for traction through the push off. Most performance socks address one of those three. Squid Socks addresses all of them, which is why the brand describes the result as locked in rather than cushioned.

Why it matters on a pickleball court

Pickleball is not a running sport. It is a stopping and starting sport, played inside a kitchen line where the same short lateral move repeats a few hundred times a session. Every one of those moves is a chance for your foot to shift a few millimeters inside the shoe. Those millimeters are where heel rub, toe slam and hot spots come from, and they are also where a clean weight transfer gets lost. A foot that stays put pushes off the shoe instead of pushing off itself.

The build

Roughly 68 percent viscose from bamboo, blended with polyester, nylon and spandex, so they breathe and hold their shape through a wash cycle. Seamless toe. Anatomical left and right shaping. Grips are 100 percent silicone, applied with heat rather than printed on.

Pick your height

No-show for low-cut court shoes. Ankle for most players, most days. Crew when you want coverage above the shoe collar. Sizes S through XL, sold in three-pair packs.

PS. Gear Desk

Grip socks are one of the few pieces of gear where you can feel the difference inside a single game rather than over a season. If you have ever finished a session and found a blister on the inside of your heel, that was not your shoe failing. That was your foot moving inside a sock that let it. Start with the ankle height and a court shoe you already trust before you change anything else.
